Dark Winter Lippies

11/23/2011

All of the lippies in this series are recs from the ladies of the 12 Blueprints Facebook page, Christine Scaman, or my own swatches.

If you're a Dark Winter, most of these colors will work on your lips  -  and your cheeks too, if you use them as blush.

Some may be a touch too warm, too cool,  too light or dark.  This is normal, because the variation of human coloring within a season means that not all women in a season wear the same colors on the face equally well.

Some of these  are discontinued. Check eBay.

Try before you buy, if possible.

Please do share feedback on the recs, or additional recs, in the Comments section.

Hi, thanks for the list! Did you swatch Revlon Rose Velvet yourself? I'm only asking because I cannot try it buying... thanks

I'd like to buy a higher-end lipstick for a DW woman as part of a Christmas gift. She will NOT wear dark lipsticks...she shies away from anything she thinks will look 'dramatic' and also thinks they make her thin lips look even thinner. Any suggestions for a subtle look that works with DW colouring?

I'd be particuarly interested to hear from DWs themselves...what do you wear for a 'natural' look? I was thinking NARS Dolce Vita.

Thanks so much for putting all the recs in one place! *bookmarks* One note about the L'Oreal Candy Apple - it's a little too bright and warm for this Asian DW. If I recall correctly, it was originally recced on the 12Blueprints page by someone who later found out she was bright spring - maybe it could go on that list as well?

I used this post to do some scouring on-line for DW lippys before heading out to the store. My general issue is that blushes and lipsticks have a tendency to react orange or yellow on me. So getting samples and finding places that have a good return policy are important. I have 2 that may work: Lancome Exotic Orchid - it may look a bit rosy/warm in incandescent light, but in natural light it is really nice, good for daytime wear. The next is YSL Rouge Voupte Shine Brun Insecure (1). I

I used the DW list to scope out colors on-line before shopping. I find my biggest issue is with blushes and lipsticks to react orangey on my skin. So it's important to me to find samples or places with good return policies. I found 2 lippies that might work for other DWs. First is Lancome Exotic Orchid. In incandescent light this appears a bit warm/rosy, but in natural light it really loses that and would work for daytime. I use the gloss. The second is YSL Rouge Volupte Shine - Brun In Secure (1). This one is the bomb. Just enough shine, no sparkles, comfortable and long wearing. Strangers were stopping dead in their tracks in the store as the artist was applying mascara to me. I had already had the lipstick on they were saying how pretty I looked. (Not how nice the lipstick was!) That has never, ever happened before. My personal observation is that it made my dark brown eyes pop.
