A couple of nights ago, I took my shirt off and threw on a headband so I could wash my face before bed. This particular headband is from Free People, and I adore it because it's an abstract pattern in my Soft Autumn colors. I wish I could find a picture of it online. It's a little like this, but with warmer hues: Anyway, when I saw myself in the mirror, I was struck by how perfect the headband looked with my stretchy periwinkle bralette. The combination was gorgeous.
I actually spent about ten seconds trying to imagine an excuse to wear the headband and the bralette together somewhere. Just the bralette, mind you. No shirt. A music festival, maybe? I discarded that idea pretty quickly, LOL. But the feeling of happiness that I got from looking in the mirror and thinking, "That really looks beautiful!" stayed with me. One of the reasons that I love knowing my perfect colors is that I get those moments often. I look in the mirror and see perfect color harmony, and my day is a little brighter. Visual beauty brings us joy. Being able to look in the mirror and identify beauty there brings us joy. We all deserve to have more of that feeling.

I agree! I ordered some lipsticks from your lipstick draping article from a while ago, and the first one came today. It’s a color I never would have picked for myself, but it makes me happy when I see my reflection. Thank you! (I thought I was a clear winter—I’m thinking now I’m a bright spring! I’ll confirm when my other two lipsticks arrive.) :c)

For many reasons (some valid, some not), I can't justify to myself spending so much time and effort on clothes.

Treating yourself as a work of art . . . beautiful :).

When the colours are right and the style ID is right the result will be like a work of art..It is beautiful!

It's also a tiiiny bit literal. I hate shopping, so I use the "What Not to Wear" and buying guide to edit my Ravelry queue.

I loved reading your comment. I think so many of us women struggle to justify putting time and money into self-care. Framing our visual presentation as an "art project" -- such a beautiful idea.

Hi Rachel--I tried to ask you a question in the comments for last week's post, but I think it got lost in the shuffle, so I'll ask again this week: Are there any style essences that are particularly associated with eyes that tilt downward at the outer corners?

FWIW I have down-turned eyes, and I'm some mix of Classic-Ingenue, with possibly a tinge of ethereal. Of the celebrities with downturned eyes I can think of, there doesn't seem to be a dominant essence. But in Korean makeup trends, downturned "puppy" eyes are meant to convey cuteness.

HI, KC! I have looked at your pictures and based on your photos I think your style ID could be ENG.

Io, Ethereal and Ingenue having downturned eyes would make sense to me--we'll see if Rachel confirms them.
