I'm so excited about this sale - I know from another site that I look best in cool colors. There's a school of thought that does both pure seasons and tonal families, and that's what seems to work for me, both summer and winter cool colors.

And I've finally figured out here that I'm an ethereal-natural-gamine, with mostly natural. I actually purchased several visual guides in the process of figuring it out, and the ENG was the only one that felt like home. I find it to be an odd type because it seems almost made of contradictions - either all the detail or no detail, you can have a flowy bit but then you also need a constructed bit.

For me, the natural alone is too boring, the gamine alone is too chaotic, and the ethereal alone is too drapey, but they do well if they're mixed. Also, I mistakenly thought I had ingenue (and I might have a tad), but I think the make-things-small aspect of gamine combined with natural or ethereal in a given item can have a somewhat ingenue look - small flowers or a hint of flowy lace. But ingenue as a significant portion just looks wrong, even though it is a good part of my personality.

We also figured out that my spouse (amab non-binary) is a dramatic-romantic-ethereal, with deep colors (both autumn and winter) - which explains why they never feel at home in blue jeans and love long drapey things and black lace.

I'm so glad your spouse found this system helpful! So much of this style essence stuff is geared to cis women, I've always hoped and wondered if it could be of use to anyone else.

Rachel, just to let you know that in your list of 2-type style ID blends, the link for Dramatic Gamine leads to Dramatic Natural, so it's broken! (In fact, both Dramatic Natural & Dramatic Gamine lead to Dramatic Natural...) Not sure you read this, but hopefully you do! ;)

Have you ever considered doing a plus size blog post? All your pictures of people who match your style ids are always thin women, even though thats not most women these days. Ive been wondering how weight affects style id. Could ethereal at a lighter weight and turn into natural at a larger weight, for example?

I imagine you might tweak the percentages but not go 100% E to 100% N.
I do wish we had more plus size examples! But it's also hard for me to name many plus celebrities, so I can relate to Rachel not being able to provide many. Are there any examples in particular you're thinking of?

How do I dress predominantly Romantic WITHOUT expressing “glam”, “luxurious”, or “expensive”? I’m an Romantic Natural who leads with R (I never look my best unless my outfit has some femininity in it). It takes everything in me to actually buy/wear R items (it’s counterintuitive to my personality & introverted nature). But honestly I’m SO tired of wasting money on other ID items that don’t suit me😩😫😭

G, I must admit I don't really understand this, as Romantic Natural is everything *but* “glam”, “luxurious” or “expensive”! In fact RN is quite a boho, hippie style... I get the leading with R, but still, the N in there means it's really not glam, luxurious or expensive at all! have you actually looked at Rachel's RN Pinterest board? :)
Also, R is not the only feminine essence in this system, Ingenue and Ethereal are too, so if R type of femininity feels a bit "over the top" for you, chances are you may actually have another type of feminine essence!

I would break down what you need from R and N in the first place. I'm a DN and have found I need D lines and N textures to feel my best. This looks like monochrome (usually black lol) outfits in sleek shapes but rougher denim and leather textures. As a major introvert too, this helps me feel hidden and armored.
For a RN version, I'm imagining: *your seasons neutrals (to express Introverted) * oversized cardigan (int. & N) in a lacy knit (R) * leather boots (N) w/ floral tooling (R) * jeans (N) in boot cut or flare shape (R) * scoop neck shirt (RN) layer over a higher neck (int.) lacy edge camisole (R).
You get RN details here, but the big cardigan and layered cami cover you up, and the boots and jeans can feel armored. Doing it all in neutrals, as colors can feel attention grabbing.

Hi, Dia! Thank you SO much for your advice! I love your “armor” approach to DN. As someone who just stared their style journey, that is a genius idea to me! Seriously, this helps me better approach building an outfit (regardless of formality). I can appease my int. nature with N shapes, coverings, & neutrals; then add up to my femininity level through a combination of details like lace, bootcut, etc. I prefer this look over the weightier, blingier additions that R accessories tend to bring. You know, I’ve always thought of jeans as just being jeans, but I think investing in bootcut jeans will be a great way to diversify the RN look. I like your lace cami recommendation & will likely invest in that too. Your input is so much more applicable than some of the lofty write ups I initially saw for RN. Can’t say thank you enough, Dia!
